I forgot to say in my last post that I really like the way James MacDonald quotes the Bible in his book.  First of all, he includes the verse reference inline with the text.  This can’t be taken for granted anymore with the advent of the Purpose-Driven Life endnoting system, which discourages the reader from figuring out where the quotation came from.  Second, MacDonald puts the actual quotation in boldface.  What a great way to show how important the passage is!  A lot of times, to my shame, I’ll skip over the passage being quoted and just read what the author has to say.  With this formatting, MacDonald shifts the emphasis to the Bible and away from his own commentary.  (Read this excerpt to see how effective this is.)  This is such a great idea that I may start doing it myself.
